And that’s just the average. On the extreme ends, you could be paying hundreds more, or hundreds less. A Progressive Insurance survey showed that only 20% of those who responded shopped around for better rates in the past six months.
The most important influence on how much you will pay depends on 4 factors: YOU (gender, age and driving record), WHERE YOU LIVE (urban areas cost more), YOUR VEHICLE (sports cars have higher premiums), and HOW YOU USE YOUR VEHICLE (driving more miles typically increases premiums).
Your options will include collision, comprehensive, medical, liability, uninsured motorist, underinsured motorized, umbrella, gap insurance, and other optional coverages (such as emergency towing etc). Good driver history or high risk (poor driving history) premiums will vary widely. Make sure and do your research.
